Benoit has been performing and recording since 1977 and is credited with being a pioneer in the music genre which would become known as smooth jazz. One of the most commercially successfully pop-jazz groups of the past 30 years, Spyro Gyra combines R&B and elements of pop and Caribbean music with jazz.
